South Ronaldsay Orkney

South Ronaldsay is about 9 miles long by 3 miles wide and is the nearest of the Orkney Islands to the mainland of Scotland, lying about 6 miles north of John O'Groats. It can be easily accessed from the Scottish Mainland by regular ferry services.

St Margaret's Hope, the islands main centre of population, is situated around a picturesque sheltered bay. St Margaret's Hope has three small general stores, a post office, craft shop, hotels and fine restaurants. There are also many historical sites in South Ronaldsay. There are also facilities for tennis, outdoor bowls and shortly a nine hole golf course. Access to the rest of the mainland of Orkney and the towns of Kirkwall and Stromness is by road over the four sea causeways called the Churchill Barriers. The Schoolhouse is close to a bus route.
